ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has received a sudden rain and thunderstorm in the early hours of the morning. The moderate to high-intensity rain and wind started around 7:30 am, bringing a drop in temperatures of two to three degrees Celsius.
This weather event was triggered by a westerly wave affecting the upper regions of the country, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Additionally, similar rain and windstorms, along with thunderstorms, are anticipated in various parts of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan over the coming days, the PMD said.
The PMD predicted that day temperatures are likely to soar in the current week and also forecast rain and thunderstorm in northern areas of the South Asian country from today to Sunday.
Pakistan has been experiencing the changing weather patterns like unexpected rains and heatwave since long due to the challenge of climate change. Earlier, in 2022, heavy rains and floods have damaged the roads and infrastructure especially in Sindh and Balochistan. Experts demanded the world to support Pakistan to address the issue of climate change as Pakistan is not the major contributor of carbon emission.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said in its monthly climate report that the normal average rain made the last month “wettest April since 1961”, as Pakistan received more than twice the rain it usually experiences for the month. It further said that climate change is a main factor that is influencing the unpredictable weather patterns in Pakistan.
