ISLAMABAD: The death toll from a tropical storm that lashed parts of northeastern Madagascar last week has climbed to 18, as announced by the government’s risk and disaster management office on Friday.

The office further reported that other 19 people were still missing after the storm flooded several districts and cut roads linking them to the capital Antananarivo of the 30 million people of the Island country.

A senior official at Madagascar’s National Risk Management Office Faly Aritiana Fabien informed AFP about the latest number of tolls and shared the news about two more deaths in addition to the previously announced 16.

It is the first tropical storm of the current cyclone season in southern Africa, which usually runs from November to April.
