Dense Fog Disrupts Life in Islamabad, Pothohar Region

ISLAMABAD: In what could be seen as an unusual weather condition for Islooites, dense fog engulfed several places across the capital today (Tuesday) affecting traffic on busy roads and highways.

Fog reduced visibility to below 30 metres and at some places to just 10 metres with the temperature dropping to 7°C at 8 am.

Fog slowed down traffic on the roads. Vehicles were seen moving slowly on roads with lights on to avoid any untoward situation.

As the thick layer of fog engulfed the region, the rail and air service are likely to be disrupted on Tuesday morning. Dense fog is unusual in the federal capital.

Dense fog contains particulate matter and other pollutants, according to the weather office. This may have an impact on the health of the city’s residents.

On Tuesday morning, air pollution level in Islamabad was rated very unhealthy with Air quality index standing at 232 US AQI. Main pollutant was PM2.5. Levels of 0 to 50 are considered to be good.
