ISLAMABAD: Dr Gohar Ijaz, Pakistan’s Caretaker Minster for Interior and Commerce, said on Monday that a sustainable solution to the Kashmir problem was possible only by implementing the United Nations (UN) resolutions and giving the Kashmiris their right to an independent and impartial referendum.

The minister, in his message in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, said the brave people of Kashmir had been struggling for their right to self-determination for the last seventy-six years.

He said that the entire Pakistani nation stood with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters and paid homage to their sacrifices for independence.

Pakistan’s Firm Support for Kashmiris

Gohar said as per the UN Security Council’s resolutions, Islamabad would continue its unwavering support to the Kashmiris until they achieve their right to self-determination.

He said that after the illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, Indian brutalities in the occupied territory had increased, and the Indian Supreme Court’s decision of 11 December 2023 was a step forward to depriving the Kashmiris of their right to self-determination.

The global community should play an active role in stopping the worst human rights abuses in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
