ECP All Set to Conduct By-Polls in 21 Constituencies on Sunday

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized arrangements for conducting by-elections in 21 constituencies of national and provincial assemblies on Sunday, a statement said.

As per the ECP, polling is scheduled for five National Assembly seats, twelve Punjab Assembly seats, two seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and two seats in the Balochistan Assembly. Polling will commence at 8:00 AM and continue until 5:00 PM without interruption.

The by-polls, slated for April 21 (Sunday), will cover five national and 16 provincial assembly seats. Originally, elections were planned for 23 constituencies, but the results for two of those seats, one provincial and one national, have already been declared. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari secured NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad unopposed, while Zubair Ahmad Junejo won PS-80 Dadu.

The by-polls will be held on NA-8 Bajaur, NA-44 Dera Ismail Khan-I, NA-119 Lahore-III, NA-132 Kasur-II, NA-196 Kamber Shadadkot-I, and NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad-I. Elections for NA-8 Bajaur and PK-22 Bajaur-IV were halted following the tragic demise of an independent candidate contesting in the constituencies.

Similarly, by-polls to be held on various provincial assembly seats including PP-22 Chakwal-Cum-Talagang, PP-32 Gujrat-VI, PP-36 Wazirabad-II, PP-54 Narowal-I, PP-93 Bhakkar-V, PP-139 Sheikhupura-IV, PP-147 Lahore-III, PP-149 Lahore-V, PP-158 Lahore-XIV, PP-164 Lahore-XX, PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan-XII, PP-290 Dera Ghazi Khan-V; KP’s PK-22 Bajaur-IV, PK-91 Kohat-II; Balochistan’s PB-20 Khuzdar-III, PB-22 Lasbela; and Sindh’s PS-80 Dadu-I.

Punjab Home Department has written a letter to Federal Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile and internet service in thirteen cities of Punjab aimd by-polls.
