Elections 2024: Youth to Play Key Role on Feb 8 Polls

ISLAMABAD: Everyone in Pakistan especially youth are actively taking part in political process in the country to exercise their democratic rights on Thursday. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) around 56.86 million youth will take part in the election.  Around 23.51 million voters are age 18 to 25 years, while 33.34 million voters are age 26 to 35, local media reported. According to local media cited the ECP as saying there is an increase in the number of young voters compared to the last elections in 2018—increasing from 46.43 million to 56.86 million—underlines their growing significance in the political landscape in the country. This increaser of 10.42 million within 6 years reflects a notable shift in the demographic composition of the electorate.  The ECP has finalized all arrangements to conduct free and fair elections in the country.

Political experts note that the use of digital media among youth could play a crucial role in shaping the electorate’s sentiment in the country. As Pakistan approaches polling day, all eyes are on youth voters and they will play a key role in the elections.

Elections 2024 and Youth

Talking to We News, a young man, Ahmad Shah said that he would exercise his vote to elect the new leadership of the country. He asked the political leaders to give focus to issue of youth and create job opportunities for them. He added that the upcoming political leadership should empower youth economically and provide them more opportunities to serve the country at national and international level.

A student of BS at a University in Islamabad, Palwasha Khan asked the political parties to utilize their skills for the welfare of the people especially women. She added that political parties should also give more space to youth in practical politics to serve the country.

The Election Commission of Pakistan completed a crucial task by distributing 260 million ballot papers to district returning officers (DROs) in the South Asian country. The commission’s staff ensured the timely delivery of voting materials via both ground and aerial means, showing determination. Major political parties and independent candidates are actively taking part in the elections that to be held on February 8 in the South Asian country.
