LAHORE: The Ministry of Energy on Tuesday decided to dissolve the board of directors of power distribution companies across the country.

Media reports quoted insiders within the Ministry of Energy have disclosed that a decision has been made to disband the boards of directors of power distribution companies nationwide. This move is in response to many board members having non-technical backgrounds or political affiliations.

This decision aligns with the ongoing efforts to reform the energy sector. Alongside the power distribution companies, the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) will also undergo a restructuring, with new board members to be appointed based on their strong technical qualifications and lack of political affiliations.

It has come to light that the current board members receive substantial compensation, amounting to Rs 60,000 per day, for their participation in meetings. As part of the changes, this practice is expected to be discontinued.

The Energy Ministry has clarified that the newly appointed board members will serve in an honorary capacity.
