WASHINGTON: James Stavridis, former NATO commander, urged the Biden administration and Congressmen not to withhold aid from Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Stavridis said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aim was to overrun Ukraine, and he would not stop as long as he was given the opportunity to conquer it.

There was a stalemate until the United States assistance started to run out, and as a result, Moscow has started to inch forward, and that is not gonna get better unless America provides this 60 billion dollars additional amount of ad, he said.

He was likely referring to a Senate-approved national security funding package that has 60 billion dollars in assistance for Ukraine.

However, the legislation has largely been dormant, as Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to bring it to the discussion without concessions, including provisions included for security along the United States-Mexico border.

Necessity of More Aid to Ukraine

The former NATO commander said that if more assistance is not given to Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has a reasonable shot at occupying more territory and he compared the situation watching “malevolent” Nazi leader Hitler’s Germany push across Europe.

His statement comes after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned on Wednesday that “starving” Ukraine of military support is moral and strategic malpractice.

Starving Ukraine of required capabilities was not a smart way for the Joe Biden administration to avoid escalation, and neither is it a political master stroke by some of the Republican opponents of the administration, he said on the Senate floor.  He added that it is strategic and moral malpractice. It risks condemning Kyiv and undermining our own national interest.
