ISLAMABAD: Online users seem to believe claims that the cabinet recently gave the go-ahead to the federal government to purchase luxury cars exceeding Rs12 billion for its ministers and advisors.

However, the claim is incorrect.

According to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) dated April 3, “The government is finally taking tough decisions,” stated a user. “As per sources, the federal cabinet has given the approval for buying Rs12 billion worth of luxury cars for its ministers and advisors.” This post has garnered over 40,000 views and has been reposted more than 2,800 times as of the current writing.

Fact: The secretary of the federal cabinet and two federal government ministers have refuted the claims of the cabinet sanctioning the procurement of high-end vehicles for ministers. Kamran Ali Afzal, the secretary federal cabinet, dismissed the claims as inaccurate, stating, “I oversee the funds for such matters and acquire the necessary information. I can confirm that these claims are false.”

Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the minister for overseas Pakistanis, and Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the minister for interior, also rejected the notion that the government has decided to purchase luxury vehicles for the new cabinet. Hussain labelled the claims as “totally baseless,” asserting that he verified the information with the prime minister’s office. Naqvi similarly denounced the online claims as “fake.”
