DHAKA: Mushfiqur Rahim has become the first Bangladesh batter to be dismissed for hindering the field on the opening day of the 2nd Test match against New Zealand in Dhaka. Mushfiqur Rahim handled the ball as it bounced away from him while defending a ball from Kyle Jamieson. He was given out hindering the field in the 41st over, leaving Bangladesh five down as the batter became only the first Bangladesh Men’s batsman to be dismissed in this manner.
He defended the ball and also extended his hand to keep the ball away which looked to come out of instinct albeit the ball was far from the stumps. New Zealand appealed and the on-field umpires sent the decision to the 3rd umpire to review. The umpire was satisfied following watching the replays that Mushfiqur Rahim stopped the ball intentionally and was given out.

Mushfiqur’s dismissal is also the first batsman to be dismissed for hindering the field in Tests since the rule update in 2017. While earlier, around seven batsmen have been given out ‘handling the ball’ in Tests history.
