PARIS: France has decided to stop funding of a biggest Muslim high school due to administrative failures and questionable teaching procedures, Western media reported on Monday.
As per reports a private school Averroes, the first Muslim high school opened in France in 2003 in the city of Lille, has more than 800 students and has been under state contract since 2008.
The students in the school follow the regular French curriculum besides taking religion classes.
French interior ministry earlier said the school was suffering from administrative and financial issues and that some teaching practices did not align with French values.
Many Muslims in France, that hosts the largest Muslim population in Europe, believe that the country has become more hostile towards Islam and Muslims.

In September, the French education minister banned the use of abaya, in public schools. Last year, an Imam a mosque was deported from the same area of northern France.
Averroes headmaster Eric Dufour said he had not received any notification from the interior ministry’s local office about funding cut. He said that the school would definitely challenge any such decision in administrative court.
He said that the school always followed and respected republican values. Headmaster Dufour feared that without public funding, the school would be unable to meet its high standards.
