PARIS: French police cordoned off the Iranian consulate in Paris on Friday and prepared to enter it at the mission’s request following reports of a person carrying an explosive.

According to reports, a witness observed a man entering the consulate premises with either a grenade or an explosive belt. In response, an elite police unit was mobilized after the consulate sought intervention.

News agency AFP reported that the entire neighborhood surrounding the consulate, located in the 16th district of the capital, had been sealed off, with a significant police presence established.

Parisian transport company RATP posted on X, formerly Twitter, stated that traffic had been halted on two metro lines passing through stops near the consulate.
