PARIS: French police intervened to disperse a pro-Palestinian protest by approximately 60 university students at the central Paris campus of Sciences Po university. The demonstration, held on Wednesday evening, was met with police action after discussions with university management failed to resolve the situation peacefully.

According to university officials, most students agreed to leave after discussions, but a small group remained, leading to the police intervention. The protesters were demanding that Sciences Po sever ties with entities allegedly complicit in the conflict in Gaza and stop suppressing pro-Palestinian voices on campus.

This incident comes amidst a wave of global protests following Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, particularly impacting universities in the United States. The situation underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, resonating in communities with diverse demographics, including France’s significant Jewish and Muslim populations.
