DAVOS: The reconstruction of housing in Gaza, heavily impacted by Israel’s recent war, is estimated to cost at least $15 billion, according to Mohammed Mustafa, the chairman of the Palestine Investment Fund.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Mustafa emphasized the immediate need for humanitarian aid, including food, water, and medical supplies. He highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the conflict has displaced a significant portion of the population multiple times.

Mustafa indicated that while the focus in the short term remains on providing essential humanitarian aid, the Palestinian leadership is cognizant of the necessity for reconstruction efforts. The war in Gaza has left much of the enclave in ruins, leading to a dire situation with critical shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies.

“If the war in Gaza continues, more people are likely to die of hunger or famine than war,” warned Mustafa. He stressed the urgency of restoring basic necessities such as food, medicine, water, and electricity to the besieged region.

The conflict in Gaza, ongoing since October 7, has resulted in substantial destruction, claiming over 24,442 lives and leaving nearly 61,000 people wounded, according to local health officials in Gaza.
