BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning announced on Saturday that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to embark on an official visit to China beginning tomorrow, Sunday, April 14.

This visit, lasting three days, comes in response to an invitation extended by Chinese Premier Li Zhiyang, reported by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Scholz will be accompanied by a delegation comprising directors from major German companies such as Siemens, Bayer, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW, alongside ministers of environment, agriculture, and transport, as revealed by German media sources.

Observers of Chinese affairs note that this visit occurs amidst heightened criticism aimed at Beijing due to its close ties with Moscow.

Washington has cautioned Beijing, holding it “responsible” if Russian forces escalate further into Ukraine. China swiftly responded, rejecting any external “pressure” regarding its relationship with the Kremlin.
