SYDNEY: Authorities in Wagga Wagga, located five hours west of Sydney, Australia, are conducting a comprehensive investigation following the disturbing discovery of more than 500 horse carcasses at a rural property.

The investigation was initiated after neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from the property, prompting officials to conduct an inspection.

Upon examination, horse remains were found scattered across multiple locations on the property, indicating that the carcasses had been dumped over an extended period.

According to the Wagga Wagga City Council, the condition of the carcasses varied, with some reduced to skeletal remains while others appeared to be more recent.

The council described the discovery as comprising numerous separate dumps of carcasses, estimating the total count to exceed 500.

A multi-agency investigation is now underway, involving local police, environmental protection agencies, health authorities, food safety regulators, and the state horseracing body.

The Wagga Wagga City Council has affirmed that the investigation is ongoing and has refrained from providing further details at this time.
