GAZA: The Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Monday reaffirmed its readiness for a prisoner exchange following a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued on Monday, Hamas welcomed the UN Security Council’s call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and reiterated its willingness to negotiate the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The group emphasized its commitment to engaging in an immediate process of exchanging prisoners from both sides.

Meanwhile, Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour addressed the UN Security Council, emphasizing the significance of the ceasefire resolution as a potential turning point in ending the conflict in Gaza. Mansour, visibly emotional, urged for an end to the Israeli bombardment and atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, France’s UN representative, Nicolas de Riviere, called for sustained efforts towards achieving a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. De Riviere emphasized the need for continued mobilization and immediate action, proposing that the Security Council establish a permanent ceasefire after the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
