Health Experts Encourage Smokers to Quit During Ramadan

ISLAMABAD: As the holy month of Ramadan commences, health experts are advocating for smokers to utilize this period as an opportunity to quit smoking, citing the benefits of fasting and self-discipline in aiding the cessation process.

In a report by National News, healthcare professionals emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a powerful opportunity for people to break free from smoking habits and prioritize their well-being and personal growth.

Dr. Harkirat Singh Wilkhoo, an expert at RAK Hospital, highlighted the beneficial effects of fasting on mental and physical resilience, stating that abstaining from smoking for an average of 13 hours a day during Ramadan can strengthen self-control.

Quit Smoking During Ramadan

Experts noted that the disturbance of smoking routines due to fasting can reduce the body’s dependence on nicotine, making it easier for people to quit smoking with a little willpower and determination.

During Ramadan, health professionals recommend utilizing self-discipline and refraining from smoking during fasting hours. Upon breaking the fast, people are advised to wait at least 30 minutes before considering smoking and to opt for hydrating with water instead.

Furthermore, experts stressed the importance of understanding and managing smoke cravings, which can significantly aid in the process of quitting smoking.
