BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement on Tuesday said it launched drone attacks on two northern Israel bases Tuesday in retaliation for the killing of a fighter, AFP reported.
Hezbollah said that it executed “a combined air attack using decoy and explosive drones” targeting two Israeli bases north of Acre. However, Israel reported that the drones failed to hit their intended targets.
Hezbollah said the attack was in retaliation to an Israeli drone strike earlier in the day, which resulted in the death of an engineer working for Hezbollah’s air defense forces in southern Lebanon. The strike, reportedly deep into Lebanese territory, targeted the Abu al-Aswad area near the coastal city of Tyre.
The vehicle in which the Hezbollah fighter was traveling was completely destroyed in the attack, according to reports from the scene.
Hezbollah confirmed the death of one of its fighters, stating that he was a resident of the area where the vehicle was struck. Additionally, the group acknowledged another fighter killed by Israeli forces in a separate incident overnight.
Israel’s military, on the other hand, declared that it had successfully intercepted two suspicious aerial targets off the northern coast in response to Hezbollah’s drone attacks.
The escalating hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have resulted in a significant toll on both sides. Since October 7, at least 378 persons have been killed in Lebanon, according to AFP estimates. Israel has reported the deaths of 11 soldiers on its side of the border.
