BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah group launched an attack on an Israeli army base on Wednesday, injuring 14 people, including two seriously wounded, in a northern village, according to Israeli medics. This incident marks the third consecutive day of Hezbollah strikes inflicting casualties in Israel, amidst heightened tensions in the region following Iran’s direct attack on Israel.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it targeted “a new military investigation command centre in al-Aramshe” in northern Israel near the Lebanese border. The strike was described as a combined assault involving guided missiles and explosive drones.

The Galilee Medical Centre in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya reported receiving the wounded persons, with two in critical condition among them.

Hezbollah justified the attack as retaliation for Israel’s assassination of “a number of resistance fighters” in Ain Baal and Shehabiya on Tuesday. Israeli forces confirmed the launching of missiles from Lebanon into the area of al-Aramshe and responded by striking the sources of the fire.

The exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified in recent days, with both sides sustaining casualties. Israel announced strikes in south Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of two Hezbollah commanders and another operative, while Hezbollah claimed the killing of three of its members in Israeli strikes.

Earlier on Tuesday, three people were wounded in a strike from Lebanon, and on Monday, Hezbollah targeted Israeli troops with explosive devices, injuring four soldiers who crossed into Lebanese territory.

The ongoing violence has taken a toll on both sides, with at least 368 people killed in Lebanon, according to AFP. In Israel, 10 soldiers have been reported killed near the northern border since the onset of hostilities.
