MULTAN: Health experts have emphasized that citizens should take special care and clean their teeth regularly to avoid facial deformities caused by oral diseases.

This was suggested by Principal Institute of Dentistry Dr Abdul Bar and Medical Superintendent Dr Tariq Hameed while leading an awareness walk in Multan, arranged in connection with World Oral Diseases Day on Wednesday.

Participants displayed banners and distributed pamphlets to educate the people. They said that oral diseases can lead to gastric issues, cancer, and dental misalignment which contribute to facial deformities.

Dr. Tariq emphasized the importance of oral health alongside treating physical and mental illnesses and proposed precautionary steps and awareness.

Dr. Adnan advised regular brushing before sleep time and cautioned against chocolates, sugary foods, and fast-food consumption, which can trigger dental issues in both children and adults.

The experts said that the trend of chewing food extensively has diminished, replaced by fast and processed foods, exacerbating dental problems.

They said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advocated the use of “Miswak”, which is an inexpensive tool for disease prevention and oral hygiene.

Correlation Between Oral Health and Overall Well-being

Other dental experts underlined the correlation between dental health and overall well-being and recommended dental checkups after every 6 months. Proper dental care not only enhances facial aesthetics but also maintains a healthy digestive system, they said.

Experts urged that motorcycle riders must wear helmets to prevent facial fractures, as hospitals witness a surge in fracture cases due to traffic accidents.
