ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs, Murtaza Solangi, has said that the government has constituted a high-level investigation committee for the investigation of the allegations leveled by former Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta over the alleged rigging in the general election 2024.

The minister said this while talking to the media after attending the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting on Monday, adding that everyone should remain patient and calm as the legal process was currently underway. He urged the masses to have trust in institutions and the judicial process of the country.

ECP Investigating Allegations on Rigging

He apprised that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was currently investigating the allegations of rigging, and he hoped for an appropriate solution to the issue.

Solangi further said that the caretaker government tried its best and managed to fulfill its responsibility for having free, fair, and peaceful elections.

Responding to a question, Solangi replied that once the ECP issued the final list of successful candidates, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs would forward a summary to the authorities for convening the new session of the National Assembly, whereas a request would be made to the President to summon the session of the National Assembly, he said.

Earlier, during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, chaired by Senator Fauzia Arshad, the minister said that the government was working to enhance the role and presence of PTV on social media in the context of the significance and importance of audience engagement on social media.

Above the new appointments of heads of certain institutions, the minister said that the issue would be tackled by the elected government while adding that it seemed a bit impractical to accomplish such tasks in the caretaker setup.
