ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi on Monday said that Iran and Pakistan are committed to jointly combating the menace of terrorism and other security threats in the region.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Raisi said that both leaders expressed determination to address organized crime, narcotics, and various forms of insecurity affecting their nations and the wider region.

They announced plans to boost bilateral trade to $10 billion and strengthen economic, commercial, and cultural ties.

President Raisi highlighted the historical and cultural bonds between Iran and Pakistan, underlining the resilience of their relationship. He commended Pakistan’s solidarity with Gaza and condemned Israel’s actions. He thanked the Pakistani government for its continued support.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored Iran’s significance for Pakistan, noting their enduring ties dating back to Iran’s recognition of Pakistan as an independent state. He stressed the potential for mutual development and prosperity in border regions.

President Raisi’s visit, the first by a foreign leader following Pakistan’s recent general elections, signals the importance both nations place on their relationship.

The visit aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including trade, connectivity, energy, and agriculture. Discussions also revolve around regional security issues, particularly combating terrorism.
