TEHRAN: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday warned that any Israeli attack on Iranian territory could lead to the complete destruction of the “Zionist regime,” the official IRNA news agency reported while quoting President Raisi.

President Raisi’s remarks came during a three-day official visit to Pakistan, where he pledged to bolster trade between the two neighboring nations to $10 billion annually. During his speech in Lahore, Raisi reaffirmed Iran’s support for the Palestinian resistance against Israel.

The warning follows recent escalations between Iran and Israel, with explosions heard over the Iranian city of Isfahan on Friday, reportedly due to an Israeli attack. Despite the incident, Tehran downplayed the event and indicated no plans for immediate retaliation.

Earlier this month, Iran launched a barrage of missiles and drones at Israel in response to an Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Damascus. However, the majority of the projectiles were intercepted.

While Tehran has sought to downplay the impact of Israeli airstrikes, Iranian officials remain vigilant in case of further attacks. The military commander of Isfahan province confirmed that air defense systems fired at suspicious objects, resulting in no accidents or damage on the ground. However, reports indicated broken windows in several office buildings.

Iran’s army chief, Maj Gen Abdolrahim Mousavi, described the incident as the interception of “several flying objects,” claiming that five small targets were shot down near the Isfahan eighth fighter base. The drones were reportedly intercepted near Qahjavarestan, close to Isfahan airport and the 8th Shekari army airbase.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that the downed drones caused no damage or casualties, dismissing attempts by Israeli media to portray the incident as a victory.
