WASHINGTON: A judge on Monday barred former President Donald Trump from verbally assaulting prosecutors, judiciary staff, and witnesses involved in a case that accuses the former President of trying to overturn his election loss in 2020, Western media reported.

Judge Stops Trump From ‘Smear Drive’ Against Witnesses, Prosecutors

Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington, pointing to disapproving posts on social media, said she would not permit Trump, who has pleaded not guilty, to “start a pretrial slander drive” against people involved in his criminal case. According to the order, Trump will not be permitted to attack prosecutors, judiciary staff, and witnesses.

Speaking at a rally in Iowa today, Donald Trump termed the judge’s order “illegal” and vowed to appeal against the order. Trump told his supporters that he would be the only political leader in the country’s history to face a joke order and would not be permitted to criticize people.

The order of the judge also stops the former President from discussing witnesses as relates to their proof at trial.

Donald Trump’s case trial is due to start in five months. Trump is charged with conspiring to hinder the counting of votes and prevent the certification of the 2020 elections, which he lost to Joe Biden.
