ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: The Peshawar district administration has imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital, barring gatherings of five or more people.

The ban has been imposed after a suicide bombing at the Peshawar Police Lines claimed the lives of 84 people.

The provincial government imposes section 144

In a notification issued by Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Shafiullah Khan on Saturday, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed in the city, stopping gatherings of five or more people for the next 10 days.

According to the notice, the ban has been imposed in the wake of the ongoing law and order situation in the area and to provide a “congenial atmosphere to the public at large.

“It is important to maintain the peaceful and agitation-free environment within the premises of district Peshawar,” the notice read.

Further, it explained that the district administration was apprehensive that gathering more than five people may create a law and order situation and result in any mishap.

“Furthermore, it may lead to a breach of peace and tranquility in district Peshawar.”

Gatherings, however, can be held if prior permission was sought from the deputy commissioner, the notice said.
