PRISTINA, Kosovo: Vjosa Osmani, the President of Kosovo has awarded the Kosovo Presidential Medal of Courage to Afghan women at International Women, Peace, and Security Conference.

According to reports, the second International Women, Peace, and Security Conference focused on dialogue on security, peace, and amplifying the voices of survivors of sexual violence.

The prestigious award was presented by the President of Kosovo to Zahra Nader, Editor-in-Chief of Zan Times, Medina Darwazi, Arefa Fatimi, and other female representatives from Afghanistan.

President Osmani also emphasized Kosovo’s support for the struggle of the Afghan women during the event.

Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2022, they have implemented repressive policies that severely curtail human rights and women’s rights, restricting access to employment, freedom of movement, education and basic rights.

Despite widespread domestic and global condemnation, the Taliban has yet to lift these aggressive policies, further enhancing the suffering of the Afghan people and drawing continued criticism from the international community.

It is pertinent to mention that during this event, several prominent international figures including Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State, the President of Slovenia, the President of Albania, and representatives from other nations attanded both online and in person to deliver speeches.

Last year, the Kosovo Presidential Medal of Courage was given to women from Ukraine.
