KP Govt. Unveils Dengue Control Plan Amid Post-Flood Risks

PESHAWAR: In response to the escalating threat of dengue fever spurred by recent rains and floods, the health department has crafted a proactive strategy aimed at curtailing its spread. A formal letter has been dispatched to the Chief Secretary for approval of the proposed measures.

Dr. Irshad Rugani, the Director of Public Health, revealed that the initiative adopts a collaborative approach across multiple sectors to effectively tackle the dengue menace. Emphasizing the importance of prompt action, Dr. Rugani highlighted the focus on the timely eradication of dengue larvae as a pivotal aspect of disease control.

The plan includes the allocation of 1,240 beds in government hospitals to accommodate dengue patients, with a specific allocation of 300 beds designated for Peshawar. Moreover, MTI Hospital is set to designate a dedicated ward for the treatment of dengue cases.

To streamline communication and response efforts, a Dengue control room is established within the Directorate of General Health Services. Dr. Irshad Roghani underscored the collaborative nature of the endeavor, noting the involvement of the Local Government Department and PDMA to fortify prevention endeavors.

The proposed measures underscore a concerted effort by health authorities to proactively address the growing threat of dengue in the region, safeguarding public health amidst challenging environmental conditions.
