ISLAMABAD: All arrangements have been finalized to organize Lawari Snow Festival to attract local and foreign tourists to promote tourism, culture and explore the beauty of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The district administration and district sports office have jointly organized Lawari Snow Festival at district Upper Dir to promote tourism in the district. Deputy Commissioner Gouhar Zaman Wazir said the event would be started from March 12. He would also grace the inauguration ceremony of the festival.
The event will be held at the entrance spot of Lawari Tunnel. It will comprise fireworks, music, cultural shows, food competition and sports games including tug of war, volleyball, rugby and other local and traditional games. The students of schools, colleges and local teams would participate in different sports activities while renowned local singers would perform at the music show.
The festival aims to attract tourists to the mesmerizing destinations and lush green mountains of Upper Dir, along with providing entertainment and business opportunities to the local communities, said the Deputy Commissioner.
While talking to Wenews, Deputy Commissioner Gouhar Zaman Wazir said that the Northern part of Pakistan is a blessing of God, full of beautiful green hills, splashing waterfalls, and a healthy atmosphere while Upper Dir is one such destination. He added that the festival aims to attract tourists to the area’s natural beauty.
Earlier, the District Sports Officer Siddiq Ullah met with the Deputy Commissioner at his office and briefed him about the event. He also presented a T-shirt with the logo of the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to DC Upper Dir.
Meanwhile, District Sports officer Sadiqullah said that under the guidance of DC Dir all possible resources will be utilized to make the event successful.
Lawari snow festival for Promoting Tourism, local culture
Lawari is one of the attractive destinations in Upper Dir mostly laded with a white blanket of snow and dissecting Upper Dir from Chitral. Both districts (Upper Dir and Chitral) are now linked through Pakistan’s longest Lawari Tunnel after its operationalization a few years back.
People of Dir Upper in collaboration with the local administration usually organize events titled Lawari. The present Administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Gouhar Zaman Wazir along with the vibrant District Sports Officer Sadiqullah pledged to make this year’s festival more attractive and memorable for the spectators and to highlight local culture and promote tourism in the area.
