Macron Says will Take Every Step to Avert Middle East Crisis

PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron has said that his country would help do everything to avert a “conflagration” in the Middle East following an unprecedented Iranian strike on Israel.

In an interview with a television, President Macron said that they would take every step to avert crisis in the region. Responding to a question, the French President said that French jets assisted repel an Iranian violation of Jordan’s air space during the strike late Saturday.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran said that Tehran has no intention of engaging militarily with Washington in the region, but if the US initiates a military operation against Iran, “Tehran will use its inherent right to reply proportionately.”

Iran and Israel have blamed one another at the UN of being the main threat to the regional peace, each calling on the UNSC to impose sanctions on their enemy, western media reported. Iran’s permanent representative to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani told the UNSC meeting that Saturday’s strike on Israel was “precise, only attacked military objectives.

On the other side, Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan told the UNSC that Iran has exposed its true face as the destabilizer of the world and the region. He asked the UNSC to impose sanction on Tehran.

During the meeting, US envoy Robert Wood has warned that “if Tehran or its proxies take actions against the US or further action against Israel, Iran will be held accountable. ”

Russia’s Vasily Nebenzia alleged the council of hypocrisy and dual standard over its failure to convene in a similar fashion after Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.

China’s deputy permanent envoy Dai Bing noted Tehran’s statement that its military action was in reply to Israel’s aggression against his diplomatic premises and “the matter can be deemed settled.”

Iran on Saturday launched a strike at Israel in retaliation against an Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria which killed around seven revolutionary guards, including two commanders. Tehran had warned that Israel would be “punished” for the attack.
