Malaysia Calls All Parties to Refrain from Tensions in Middle East

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamad Hasan has called for calm in the Middle East as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate.

Referring to the recent tensions between Iran and Israel after Israel’s attack on April 1 on consulate of Iran in Damascus, the Malaysian Foreign Minister stated that any further form of provocation and retaliation could ignite a devastating region-wide conflict that will not serve anyone in the region. The Minister also asked the world to not lose sight of the current conflict in Gaza.

He said, “Malaysia further echoes the call by the UN chief for an immediate cessation and end of these hostilities.

Earlier, Iran on Saturday launched a strike at Israel in retaliation against an Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria which killed around seven revolutionary guards, including two commanders.  Iranian officials had warned that Israel would be “punished” for the attack on its consulate in Syria.
