ISLAMABAD: Mehbooba Mufti, President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), conducted several road shows in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara, highlighting the paramount importance of resolving the Kashmir issue for her party.

Accompanied by party leaders, Mehbooba reiterated that the resolution of the Kashmir issue remains the supreme objective for the PDP, recognizing the sacrifices made by Kashmiri people, including the loss of children and widowing of women due to the prolonged conflict.

“We will reclaim Article 370 and restore what was taken from us in August 2019, with added interest. I am confident about this, but we must collectively engage in a democratic struggle to resolve the Kashmir issue for sustainable peace and tranquility,” she asserted.

Mehbooba condemned the prevailing atmosphere of fear in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), highlighting the erosion of civil liberties even within people’s homes. She expressed dismay over unwarranted stops and searches on the Islamabad-Srinagar highway, where youth are subjected to intrusive frisks, mobile phone confiscations, and false accusations.

Moreover, Mehbooba voiced grave concerns over the encroachment on people’s ancestral lands, resource exploitation, and the surge in youth unemployment and substance abuse.

The road shows underscored Mehbooba Mufti’s commitment to addressing critical issues affecting Kashmiri residents and her determination to advocate for the restoration of Article 370, which granted special status to the region before its abrogation in 2019.
