LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Misbah-ul-Haq criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to remove bowling legend Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain of the national team, stating that it was equally unjust to have previously ousted Babar Azam from the captaincy. Emphasizing that both players are national “stars,” Misbah cautioned against the detrimental impact of abrupt captaincy changes on players. He urged thoughtful decision-making by the cricket board.

Regarding coaching appointments for white- and red-ball cricket, Misbah emphasized the importance of selecting coaches based on the team’s needs and characteristics.

The recent decision by PCB, under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, to switch captaincy back to Babar Azam from Shaheen Shah Afridi has sparked rumors of tension between the two players. Misbah’s stance echoes sentiments expressed earlier by former captain Shahid Afridi, who questioned the selection committee’s decision-making process.
