ISLAMABAD: Namibia all-rounder Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton set a new record for the fastest Twenty20 International (T20I) century by smashing a 33-ball ton against Nepal in Kirtipur on Tuesday.

In the opening game of a three-nation series also featuring the Netherlands, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton firing innings including 11 fours and eight sixes before being dismissed for 101 from 36 deliveries.

The previous record was held by Nepal’s Kushal Malla, who scored a T20I hundred from 34 balls against Mongolia in 2023.

Namibia scored 206 for the loss of 4 wickets while batting first before Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton also took two wickets as hosts Nepal fell short in their chase, losing by 20 runs.

The three teams competing in the tri-series have all qualified for the T20 World Cup to be held in June in the Caribbean and United States.

Fastest Hundred in ODI

It is worth mentioning here that the fastest ODI century record still remained with South African player AB de Villiers, who smashed a hundred on just 31 balls in 2015 and broke the record of Corey Anderson (New Zealand), who scored a hundred in 2014.

However, before Corey, the fastest hundred record remained entitled to Boom Boom Afridi, who scored a hundred on 37 balls in 1996 against Sri Lanka. Afridi retained the record for about 18 years.
