Pakistan, Azerbaijan vow to enhance energy cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and discussed energy cooperation and expressed commitment to deepen bilateral engagement in a number of areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The premier is on a visit to the 6th Summit of the CICA, which held at Capital Astana, Kazakhstan. Premier Sharif in the meeting stressed the need of strengthening tight collaboration on energy, and reiterated it a top priority for his government. The previous energy projects between both the countries were also discussed in the meeting. Sharif and Aliyev also reviewed the status of numerous ongoing projects aimed at fostering connectivity, trade, and investment.

Shahbaz Sharif also designated Minister of state for Petroleum Musadiq Malik who recently paid a visit to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, as the point of contact for their bilateral energy cooperation.

Federal Ministers Musadiq Malik, Khawaja Asif, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and other government representatives are accompanying Sharif. Before departing for Astana, Sharif said on twitter that, “The summit is capable of establishing a new configuration of economic cooperation and security in Asia through greater connectivity.”
