Pakistan Highly Values Brotherly Ties with Azerbaijan: NA Speaker

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said on Wednesday that Pakistan highly valued its close brotherly ties with Azerbaijan that are based on historical, religious, and cultural commonalities.

Pakistan was committed to expanding its parliamentary and economic cooperation with Azerbaijan by enhancing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest to attain the shared objective of progress and prosperity, the speaker expressed these views during a meeting with the Azerbaijan ambassador Khazar Farhadov, who called on him here in Islamabad.

The envoy presented a congratulatory letter from the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova to Sadiq on his successful election and invitation to visit his country. Ayaz Sadiq thanked the diplomat for conveying congratulations and inviting him.

The Speaker said that the unanimity of views shared by both countries on different issues and forums was the manifestation of strong relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

He lauded Azerbaijani support to Pakistan on the principled stand of Kashmir. The speaker also reminded that the Parliament of Pakistan adopted a resolution to condemn Armenian Aggression in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

While stressing strengthening the parliamentary relations between both countries, Ayaz Sadiq said that parliamentary diplomacy between the two nations had always remained pivotal in fortifying the good ties and now it would be used more actively to support government efforts.

The speaker also emphasized the need to revive parliamentary friendship groups between the parliaments of the two nations for better collaboration.
