ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the immediate formation of a committee to control the prices of essential food items in the country.

He gave these orders while chairing an inaugural session of the newly-elected Federal Cabinet in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister ordered that the committee, in collaboration with the provincial governments, will strictly monitor the rates of essential food items.

Strict Action Against Unjustified Price Hike

He stressed that strict action will be taken against unjustified price hikes and profiteering in essential commodities and no leniency will be tolerated in this regard.

In response to a recommendation by the Ministry of Commerce, the Federal Cabinet accorded approval to a restriction on the import of potatoes and onions until April 15.

This decision aims to ensure ample availability in the market during the holy month of Ramadan.

Moreover, the cabinet approved the reinstatement of Pakistani citizenship for Muhammad Orangzaib, a Dutch national residing in the Netherlands, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior.

In line with the Ministry of Narcotics Control’s proposal, Major General Abdul Moeed Hilal Imtiaz Military has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Anti-Narcotics Force.

Earlier, the Prime Minister congratulated the newly-appointed Cabinet members and extended his best wishes for their tenure. He also outlined the government’s vision and priorities during the meeting.
