ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of boosting trade and investment ties with the United States while exploring opportunities for collaboration across various sectors.

He encouraged American businesses to invest in the Pakistan Stock Exchange and bring innovative ideas to contribute to the country’s economy.

These statements were made during a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Pakistan, Donald Blome, at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.

President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with the USA spanning over seven decades and stressed the need to further strengthen this broad-based partnership.

He emphasized that Pakistan’s main priority is to revitalize its economy and address economic and security challenges.

The President also underscored the importance of addressing climate change, noting Pakistan’s vulnerability to its adverse impacts. He mentioned Pakistan’s efforts to improve the agricultural sector through modern irrigation techniques to conserve water and reduce reliance on flood irrigation.

In response, US Ambassador Donald Blome expressed the potential for enhanced collaboration between Pakistan and the USA in trade, investment, climate change, renewable energy, agriculture, and security sectors. He mentioned the completion of the Sindh Basic Education Program by the USA to build climate-resilient schools, contributing to Pakistan’s education sector.

Ambassador Blome also extended congratulations to President Zardari on assuming office for a second term.
