ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Urea offtake went down by 24% year on year while remained up 3% month on month basis in Dec-2023 largely due to the seasonal factors.

However, in full year 2023 Urea offtake is expected to remain flat at 6.6 million tons. The closing inventory of Urea stands at around 50,000 tons as of Dec-2023 which is lower than buffer stock of around 200,000 tons.

Similarly, Pakistan’s DAP offtake is down by 11% year on year and 50% month on month in Dec-2023 again largely due to the seasonal factors. The month of December lesser uses the fertilizers, though in January its use grows than other months.

However, in full year 2023, DAP offtake is expected to increase by 31% year on year to 1.6 million tons due to low base effect of last year amid floods. The closing inventory of DAP stands at around 25,000 tons as of Dec-2023.

Urea and DAP are the basic fertilizers of the crops in Pakistan, though using of urea reduces the strength of the land and it always need more urea for the next crop. It dwindles the land’s crop bearing capacity every year. For this many nations have banned using urea as fertilizers.
