Pakistani Ship Carrying Humanitarian Aid Arrives at Turkish Port

MERSIN: The first Pakistani ship having humanitarian aid for earthquake victims reached Türkiye’s southern Mersin International Port on Monday.

The military ship from the Pakistani navy set off with a gathering held at the Karachi Port on February 28.

The ship having 22,000 blankets, 1,800 winter tents, and various support materials on board was welcomed by Governor of Mersin Ali Hamza Pehlivan, Pakistan’s envoy to Türkiye Yousaf Junaid and other senior officials.

Turkish Governor Hails Pakistan for Sending Aid

On the occasion,  the Governor of Mersin said that Türkiye and Pakistan have diplomatic ties, but the countries also have cordial fraternal relations as well, and these relations are deepening and developing every day.

He further said that the aid from brotherly and friendly countries, including Pakistan played a pivotal role in minimizing the miseries and problems of the victims of the devastating quake, adding that the second aid ship would possibly arrive in Mersin on March 23.

On February 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 strong jolts hit 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Hatay, Elazig, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Malatya, Kilis, Sanliurfa and Osmaniye.

Over 13.5 million people in Türkiye have been affected by the deadliest earthquakes and hundreds of thousands of others in northern Syria.

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay stated Saturday that the death toll had reached 50,000, including more than 6,800 foreign citizens.
