Pakistani Women’s Team to Face Indian Rivals in Asia Cup Clash in July

LAHORE: The Pakistan Women’s cricket team is set to take on the Indian Women’s team in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which will commence on July 21st in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed that the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from July 19th to July 28th, 2024.

This edition of the tournament will feature eight teams, one more than the previous edition in 2022, indicating a surge in interest and participation in women’s cricket across Asia. The Pakistan Women’s team will kick off their campaign against Nepal on the opening day, July 19th, and conclude their group stage matches against UAE on July 23rd. The semifinals are slated for July 26th, with the final scheduled for July 28th.

Pakistan Women have been drawn into Group A alongside India, Nepal, and UAE, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Thailand. The expanded participation promises heightened competition, ensuring an electrifying tournament for cricket enthusiasts across the region.

Continuing its commitment to inclusivity and gender equality in cricket, the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 will feature all-female referees and umpires, building upon the successful implementation of the same in the previous edition.

ACC President Jay Shah emphasized that the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 underscores the organization’s dedication to fostering women’s cricket in the region. He noted the tournament’s growth from six teams in 2018 to seven in 2022, and now to eight, as evidence of their commitment to the women’s game and the burgeoning talent pool in Asian cricket. Shah anticipated an enthralling tournament that would serve as inspiration for both players and fans alike.
