Pakistan’s Minister Discusses CPEC Phase-2 with Chinese Companies

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a meeting on Tuesday with representatives from various Chinese companies operating within Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by 35 companies, including the Pakistan Business Council, Pakistan China Investment Council, Pakistan IT Industry Association, Azad Pattan Hydropower Project, Port Qasim Coal Power Plant, and other entities engaged in projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Convened by Sector Specialist Dr. Mizamal Zia from the CPEC Secretariat, the meeting aimed to formulate a comprehensive agenda for CPEC Phase 2.

Ahsan Iqbal stressed the significance of bolstering economic cooperation and enhancing Pakistan’s exports to China. He commended the pivotal role played by Chinese companies in Pakistan and reiterated the government’s unwavering support for Chinese investors. Emphasizing the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan, he pledged to provide robust security measures.

The Minister instructed relevant authorities to streamline processes for Chinese companies to obtain necessary clearances and permits for operations in Pakistan. He also proposed fostering joint ventures between Chinese and Pakistani firms to bolster economic cooperation.

Highlighting CPEC’s strategic significance in transforming Pakistan’s economy, Minister Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed his commitment to the timely completion of remaining projects under CPEC and safeguarding Chinese investments in Pakistan.

Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, and other pertinent government bodies were also present at the meeting.
