Pakistan’s PM, EU Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

ISLAMABAD: The European Union Ambassador Riina Kionka called on Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

During the meeting, PM Shahbaz Sharif thanked the EU leaders for their congratulatory messages on his re-election and expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with the EU.

Emphasizing the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and the EU, he expressed contentment with the existing institutional mechanisms aimed at enhancing cooperation.

Specifically acknowledging the EU’s continuous support through the GSP Plus scheme, which has been extended until 2027, the Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s keen interest in actively participating in the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, particularly through engagement with the European Investment Bank.

He sought the EU’s assistance in providing consultancy and expertise to facilitate crucial reforms across various sectors within Pakistan.

In response, Ambassador Riina Kionka briefed the premier on various collaborative initiatives, including ongoing dialogues on migration and mobility issues and efforts to facilitate European businesses operating within Pakistan.

Moreover, discussions centered on the progress towards resuming flights from Pakistan to EU countries.
