RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Authority has announced the preparation of a report detailing Israel’s violations of International Court of Justice (ICJ) orders aimed at preventing genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip. Omar Awadallah, the assistant foreign minister of the State of Palestine, disclosed this development, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

The ICJ ruling, issued last month, mandated six provisional measures aimed at preventing and punishing direct and public incitement to genocide by Israel. Additionally, the ruling called for immediate and effective action by the Israeli government to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Palestinian Authority Forms Legal Team

Addressing a news conference in Ramallah, Awadallah revealed that the Palestinian Authority had established a legal team in response to a directive from President Mahmoud Abbas. This legal team is tasked with presenting the Palestinian case during the upcoming ICJ hearings scheduled from February 19 to 26.

Accompanying the legal team will be Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, who will play a crucial role in advocating for Palestine’s position before the international court.

The Palestinian Authority’s initiative underscores its commitment to pursuing legal avenues to address violations of international law and human rights abuses by Israel in the Gaza Strip. By engaging with the ICJ, Palestine seeks to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to seek justice for affected civilians.

The upcoming hearings represent a crucial opportunity for the Palestinian Authority to present evidence and arguments supporting its claims of Israeli violations of ICJ orders.
