RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars on Saturday said that it is mandatory requirement for Muslims to obtain a Hajj permit if they intend to perform the pilgrimage.

In a statement, the Council said that acquiring a permit is obligatory to adhering with the Sharia law, facilitate the smooth conduct of Hajj, and safeguard the sanctity of the Holy Sites.

The Council has clarified that those performing Hajj without obtaining a permit are committing a sin. Hajj without permit is not permissible.

It highlighted the responsibility of government agencies tasked with organizing the Hajj season to develop a comprehensive plan based on authorized numbers. This plan encompasses various aspects such as security, healthcare, accommodation, catering, and other essential services.

The more the number of pilgrims is consistent with the authorized figures, leads to improved service provision and reduces the risk of harm, read the statement.

This proactive approach aims to prevent situations like pilgrims sleeping on roads, which could obstruct their movement and transportation, potentially resulting in casualties due to overcrowding.
