Petroleum Import Bill Contracts by 9.27 Percent

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Thursday that the imports of the overall petroleum group constricted by 9.27% during the first 7 months of the current financial year (2022-23) as compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) added that the total imports of the petroleum group from July to January remained at $10,611.740 million. It added that the imports stood at $11,696.009 million during the same period of last fiscal year.

The PBS added that the import of petroleum products decreased by 14.73% from $5,734.241 million last year to $4,889.800 million during the same period.

Similarly, the imports of liquefied natural gas decreased by 20.84% and dropped to $2,192.489 million in the current year.

PBS data showed that the products that saw a positive growth included crude petroleum, the imports of which increased by 10.90% whereas imports of liquefied petroleum gas surged by 8.26%.

PBS stated that on monthly basis, the petroleum product imports into the country decreased by 16.34 percent during the month of January 2023, as compared to December 2022.
