Head of Vietnam National Assembly Resigns

HANOI: The head of Vietnam’s National Assembly has resigned, said the ruling Communist Party on Friday.

Vuong Dinh Hue is one of the most senior leaders to fall in an anti-corruption purge.

His party asked him to step down because of shortcomings and violations, said the party in a statement on its website.

Thousands of people, including senior officials and top business leaders, have been caught up in Vietnam’s crackdown on graft.

The party in a statement alleged Vuong Dinh Hue violated regulations which the party members cannot tolerate.

Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue’s violations and shortcomings have created a bad public opinion, damaging the reputation of the Party, State and himself.

Hue was one of the country’s most powerful leaders as head of the one-party national assembly.

It is pertinent to mention that another, president Vo Van Thuong, was also forced to resign last month after just a year in the job on charges of violations and shortcomings.

Central committee of Communist Party accepts Hue’s resignation

The party’s central committee has already accepted Hue’s resignation has been accepted by but the National Assembly will have to hold a session to confirm the move.

As per an earlier announcement, the assembly will hold its regular summer session on May 20.

The political unrest is highly unusual in Vietnam.
