Presidential Elections Likely to Be Held in March: Report

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up for the presidential elections which is likely to hold next month, local media reported on Saturday. This development takes place as the constitutional term of incumbent President Dr. Arif Alvi ended on September 8, 2023.

Local media reported that election for the new President is likely to be held on March, however, the ECP has not yet issued any formal notification in this regard.

Who Will Be Successor of Dr. Arif Alvi?

Despite the conclusion of his term, Dr. Alvi continues to discharge his responsibilities within the caretaker government. However, sources within the Election Commission of Pakistan said that preparations for the presidential election are in complete swing, with the commission having also finalized the schedule for the polls.

As per constitutional provisions, the President of Pakistan can retain office for one month after the conclusion of a general elections in the country.

In light of these developments, the Election Commission of Pakistan is likely to issue the official schedule for the presidential polls imminently, providing direction and clarity for the electoral process. PPP said that former President Asif Ali Zardari will be its candidate for the President slot.
