LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is going to dedicate today’s (Wednesday) demonstration to the judiciary as it postponed the launch of its election campaign until Saturday.

The election campaign will now start with a public rally at Sangla Hill, a town in the central Punjab, according to the party officials.

The PTI was supposed to kick off its election campaign today (Wednesday) with a rally from PTI chief Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence to Data Darbar but later decided to dedicate Wednesday’s demonstration to the judiciary. The election campaign will now be kicked off with a public rally at Sangla Hill, a town in central Punjab. After months of rest and healing of bullet wounds, PTI chief Imran Khan himself would lead the rally today.

Addressing a presser Tuesday, PTI leader Hammad Azhar claimed that all arrangements in this regard were complete. “The rally would start from Zaman Park, travel along the canal, take a sharp turn at Muslim Town Morr, and march towards the Data Darbar before its culmination,” he informed the media at the party office here. He said the rally was aimed at strengthening the judiciary, which is the last hope for country’s people and the rule of law.

Separately, Central Secretary General PTI, Asad Umar told a press conference that Imran Khan was now the target of an “organised campaign”. “All 76 cases registered against him are aimed at drawing him out of the protection of his home and exposing his life to threats,” added the PTI leader. Imran Khan is facing a catch-22: if he goes to the courts, he puts his life in danger and if he does not, he faces legal consequences, Umar said further. “The party believes that legal repercussions of avoiding court appearances are far less than going to courts and exposing his life to danger,” he maintained.

“PTI is approaching high courts”

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is approaching the high courts in Lahore and Islamabad seeking either provision of foolproof security for Imran Khan or allow him remote hearings. “The kind of foolproof security Imran Khan needs is next to impossible,” Umar claimed. “The person who tried to kill Imran Khan [at Wazirabad on November 3] was allowed to appear before the concerned court via a video link but the man who was the target is being denied the same,” he lamented.
