RAFAH: Gaza’s border authority has announced that the Rafah land crossing into Egypt would reopen on Sunday for dependents and foreign passport holders, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The crossing between Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and Gaza is the only entry into the Gaza strip not controlled by Israel. Rafah land crossing has been vital for aid trucks and evacuees, who number in the thousands, Reuters maintained.

Rafah Crossing to Reopen Sunday: Report

Egyptian and Palestinian sources told Reuters that evacuations from Gaza into Egypt, including for Palestinian people needing immediate medical treatment, were deferred on Friday because of problems transporting medical evacuees from Gaza.

Reuters citied Egyptian sources as saying that the Rafah land crossing would begin operating at 9 a.m. local time for foreign nationals and medical evacuees.

The Israeli airstrikes and ground military offensive has killed more than 11,000 people in Gaza, health ministry said.

The Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip has also prompted anger, with protest demonstrations in cities worldwide demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. In London, over 100,000 pro-Palestinian protest demonstrators took to the streets on Saturday.  Several thousand people held protest demonstration in Paris on Saturday under the rallying call “Stop the massacre in Gaza.” The protestors called for France to “demand an immediate truce” in the Gaza Strip. “I attended the protest to support the Palestinian cause, for a truce in Gaza,” said engineer Ahlem Triki.
